SUMMARY:Design Your Community Architecture Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Discovering Architecture: “Design Your Community” [Download Brochure] is an immersive workshop offering a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the life of an architect while exploring diverse methods of design\, whether through digital software’s or traditional hand drawings. With a philosophy that there’s no wrong way to create\, participants are encouraged to unleash their creativity and develop their own designs\, fostering a sense of ownership and pride in their community. Led by mentor Christine Monaghan\, the workshop emphasizes the importance of serving people and giving back through architectural design. Participants will embark on a journey of skill development and personal growth\, honing both verbal and visual communication skills while crafting designs for a public space in need. With a supportive and inclusive atmosphere\, this summer program starting on June 25th aims to empower individuals of all ages and backgrounds to explore their passion for architecture and design\, laying the foundation for future endeavors in the field. \nMeet Our Client: Levitate! \nDesigning for Levitate & enhancing community spaces. Participants will embark on an exciting journey to revamp the indoor and outdoor areas of Levitate\, a multi-use establishment in Marshfield\, MA. Led by mentor Christine Monaghan\, the workshop begins with an insightful kick-off meeting with owner Dan Hassett at his surf shop conference room\, where participants will delve into the intricacies of Levitate’s design challenges. Armed with the opportunity to ask questions\, conduct space walkthroughs\, and even utilize a 3D scanner provided by Christine\, participants will gain invaluable insights into the project’s requirements. Subsequently\, the workshop shifts to the Duxbury Student Union (DSU)\, where participants will collaboratively brainstorm and develop innovative solutions that align with Levitate’s business and cultural objectives. With the potential for their designs to be implemented by Levitate\, participants will be motivated to produce high-quality presentations\, supported by Christine’s guidance in creating portfolio-worthy materials. Throughout the process\, participants are encouraged to familiarize themselves with Levitate’s ethos and operations by exploring their website\, ensuring a deep understanding of the client’s vision and needs.
